A New South Wales 38 class steam locomotive is prepared for the running of the Newcastle Express to Sydney.

Note: the film is designed to convey a typical "day in the life of..." for the working of this train however the scenes have been filmed over an extended period with different 38 class locomotives being used in various scenes.
