One of the most charming part of Turkey is the area around Lake Eğirdir. It consists of a series of fertile valleys, with lakes which are a beautiful aquamarine colour. The area is particularly scenic, and even in the 1980s was well-developed for tourism, with good roads, comfortable hotels and interesting restaurants.
The towns of Isparta, Dinar, Burdur and Eğirdir are connected by a system of branch lines, although the Eğirdir branch has been closed since these films were taken. Another attraction was the almost exclusive use of Prussian type locomotives, with G8 0-8-0 (D), G10 0-10-0 (E) and Henschel 2-10-2 (1'E 1) classes. Most trains were short, although there were mixed freight workings, but the most spectacular loads were hauled during the sugar beet season in September, often requiring banking over the steep grades.
This is the last of my Turkish films. Thanks to Planet Television for digital transfer, and to Bonusaga for the Turkish translation and inspiration.
